‘Sisters’ concert highlights sibling harmonies
Three local sister acts will be featured in the next installment of the House Blend Concert Series at The Arts Center in Athens, Tenn.
Performing in this “Sisters” act on Friday, Jan. 13, will be Lindsey Kimball and Jennifer Nunley, Liz Schreck and Emily Arrington, and Rachel, Sarah, Miriam, Claire and Emily Offutt, with special guests Lauren Brown Shepherd and Whitney Kimball Coe and accompaniment by house band September Song.
Sisters Jennifer Nunley and Lindsey Kimball have been performing together most of their lives, but it wasn’t until t hey formed September Song with Kimball’s then-boyfriend (now husband) Andrew Kimball, that the two started performing together regularly. (Other members of the ensemble are Joe Littleton and Liz Schreck.) Nunley and Kimball are comfortable singing everything from folk and country to Broadway show tunes and are known for their tight harmonies.
Growing up, twins Emily Arrington and Liz Schreck were musically and theatrically influenced by their mother, Pam Thigpen.
The Offutt sisters have sung together at home for years where any prompting, even daily con- versation, might result in them bursting into song. They have performed with multiple church choirs and theater groups.
Lifelong friends Lauren Brown Shepherd and Whitney Kimball Coe are sisters of the heart. They attended the same university in Charlotte, N.C., and have sung together in multiple choirs, including the Athens Area Children’s Choir, Queens University Chamber Singers and St. Paul’s Episcopal Church Choir.
Patrons are invited to come early to enjoy the opening reception for “Shades” from 5: 30 to 7 p.m. Featured artist Charlie Newton will be on hand to informally discuss his work. Light refreshments are included.
