Actor George Dalton, 12, stars in new movie

“Wild Man,” the independently produced comedy, will be shown this weekend at the Nashville Film Festival and it stars George Dalton.

Dalton, 12, a young actor with Chattanooga roots who alternates his time between here and Los Angeles, is making his debut in a leading role with the film. He said in a phone interview that doing the movie was no different than it was acting in other projects such as “Second Chances” or “Wet Hot American Summer: First Day of Camp.”

“I didn’t feel any added pressure. I enjoyed it,” he said.

The movie is about a former high school football star placed on house arrest after a wild night in his hometown. He ends up befriending the awkward kid next door and agrees to coach him in football so the kid can make the middle-school team.

“We kind of grow up together in the movie,” Dalton says.

The movie has quite a few Tennessee connections in addition to Dalton’s ties to Chattanooga. The film was written by Tennessee-native Ted Welch and was filmed in Hendersonville, Tenn. Actor Mike Vogel lives in Franklin, Tenn., while Colton Davie, the film’s director of photography, is a Bryan College graduate.

Vogel and Welch have worked together in the past with both winning Screen Actor’s Guild awards for their work on “The Help.”

“Wild Man” premiered in March at the Cinequest Fil m & VR Festival in Barry Courter

San Jose, Calif. It is one of 31 movies being screened in Nashville in the festival’s “Tennessee First” competition.

› Speaking of movies and film festivals, The Palace Picture House had its “pillow soft” opening during the Chattanooga Film Festival two weekends ago and its soft opening last Friday.

The space in the Tomorrow building is part of the space that used to be Yester- day’s on Patten Parkway. It is home to Chattanooga Film Festival, Mise En Scenesters film club and Chattanooga Girls Rock.

It is also a place for independent artists to display their work.

The Palace will be showing films daily starting at 4:30 p.m., and will also host special screenings, live music, workshops, presentations and gallery showings. The website is chattpalace.com.
