Collegians featured in upcoming Hunter Museum events
Programming in conjunction with “Our America: The Latino Presence in American Art,” the current exhibit at Hunter Museum of American Art, continues tonight, April 20, with “Dreams of Our America.” The program begins at 6 p.m. at the museum, 10 Bluff View.
Guests will begin with a personal exploration of several works in the exhibit along with a journaling opportunity. Then the whole group will gather for a brief immersive experience featuring a multilingual presentation by Chattanooga State Community College students who have immigrated from other counties.
On Sunday, April 23, the Hunter Undergraduate Student Symposium will return to feature papers from university students on the topic of border crossings. The free event is from 1 to 3 p.m. at the museum.
Border Crossings’ respondent will be Dr. Elissa Weichbrodt, assistant professor of art at Covenant College.
The featured students and papers are:
› Emma Friedman- Buchanan, University of Kentucky; “Borders of Fire: The Power of Exile in Ana Mendieta’s Silueta Films.”
› Jerryann Ramos Hernandez, University of Central Florida; “Colonial Identity In the Work of Myrna Baez and Maria de Mater O’Neill.”
› Ryan Holguin, Vassar College; “The Visual Campaign of the East Los Angeles Student Walkouts.”
› Alexa Whitman, Covenant College; “Crossing Boundaries, Creating a Rumble.”
