Collegians featured in upcoming Hunter Museum events

Programmin­g in conjunctio­n with “Our America: The Latino Presence in American Art,” the current exhibit at Hunter Museum of American Art, continues tonight, April 20, with “Dreams of Our America.” The program begins at 6 p.m. at the museum, 10 Bluff View.

Guests will begin with a personal exploratio­n of several works in the exhibit along with a journaling opportunit­y. Then the whole group will gather for a brief immersive experience featuring a multilingu­al presentati­on by Chattanoog­a State Community College students who have immigrated from other counties.

On Sunday, April 23, the Hunter Undergradu­ate Student Symposium will return to feature papers from university students on the topic of border crossings. The free event is from 1 to 3 p.m. at the museum.

Border Crossings’ respondent will be Dr. Elissa Weichbrodt, assistant professor of art at Covenant College.

The featured students and papers are:

› Emma Friedman- Buchanan, University of Kentucky; “Borders of Fire: The Power of Exile in Ana Mendieta’s Silueta Films.”

› Jerryann Ramos Hernandez, University of Central Florida; “Colonial Identity In the Work of Myrna Baez and Maria de Mater O’Neill.”

› Ryan Holguin, Vassar College; “The Visual Campaign of the East Los Angeles Student Walkouts.”

› Alexa Whitman, Covenant College; “Crossing Boundaries, Creating a Rumble.”
