Writing workshop at Cleveland library
A Smoky Mountain author of four published novels will lead a free writing workshop on Friday, April 28, at the Cleveland-Bradley County Public Library, 795 Church St., in Cleveland, Tenn.
“How I Write Novels,” taught by Wally Avett, will begin at 2 p.m. The free workshop is sponsored by Friends of the Library. The event will include a book signing.
“I like to tell the stories that inspired the stories,” says Avett.
“We’ll have a free and lively discussion on writing books,” he says. “I’ll be specific and tell the behind-thescenes stuff for each of my works. You’ll hear exactly how I did it, what worked for me and what to look out for.
Avett will give information on how to plan a novel, write it and get it published. His workshop on fiction-writing has plenty of advice, handouts, tips, a sample writing exercise and time for questions from participants.
His novels are produced through traditional publishers in Tennessee and North Carolina, available on- line in both paperback and digital downloads.
“Murder in Caney Fork” and “Last Bigfoot in Dixie” are contemporary mystery/thrillers. “Rebel Bushwhacker” and “Coosa Flyer” are Civil War-era, historical fiction inspired by true events.
Avett is a retired journalist who writes the “Hillbilly Ranger” op-ed column for the Cherokee Scout in Murphy, N.C.. Earlier this month, he published a collection of his newspaper columns and magazine articles called “Real Mountain Tales.”
