Dalton Little Theatre presents ‘Crimes of the Heart’

The scene is Hazelhurst, Miss., where the three Magrath sisters have gathered to await news about the family patriarch, their grandfathe­r, who is living out his last days in the local hospital.

Lenny, the eldest, is unmarried and facing diminishin­g marital prospects. Meg, the middle sister, outgrew Hazelhurst and moved to Hollywood for a singing career that failed. Babe, the youngest, is out on bail after shooting her husband in the stomach.

Can the three escape their pasts to seize the future?

Find out in Dalton Little Theatre’s next comedy-drama, “Crimes of the Heart,” running May 5-7 and 12-13, at the theater on 210 N. Pentz St., Dal- ton, Ga. All shows start at 7 p.m., with the exception of Sunday, May 7, which is a 2 p.m. matinee.

The play is produced in special arrangemen­t with Dramatists Play Service Inc. Ronald King is directing, assisted by Caleb Busie and Joel Sanchez-Avantes.

“Crimes of the Heart” was written by Beth Henley in 1978. The play won the 1981 Pulitzer Prize for Drama and was nominated for a Tony Award for Best Play. It was adapted for the big screen as a feature film in 1986 starring Sissy Spacek, Jessica Lange and Diane Keaton.
