The local attraction that Travel & Leisure Magazine listed in its “America’s Top 10 Family Amusement Parks” opens for its 92nd season today, May 4.

Lake Winnepesaukah’s hours today and Friday, May 4-5, are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. On Saturday, May 6, the park will be open 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.; Sunday, noon to 6 p.m.

The amusement park, located at 1730 Lakeview Drive in Rossville, Ga., remains operational through Saturday, Oct 28.

The park includes more than 40 rides and attractions spread over about 100 acres, says Talley Green, public relations director.

Lake Winnie’s popular fireworks displays are planned on July 1 and July 4 at 10 p.m., she says.

SoakYa water park will open Memorial Day weekend.

Green says the water park has a new ride that will remain a secret until it opens this summer.

Teasers have been posted online as work progresses. On April 11, officials posted a view of contractors digging dirt out of a huge hole. A photo labeled “Top Secret” on April 18 showed contractors working on blue, green, yellow, purple and red tubes that extend toward the sky.

Several online posts from patrons guess it’s a water slide on Lake Winnie’s Facebook page.

“It’s a racing slide,” said Samantha Hulzenga.

Ricky Rogers posted that a McDonald’s coupon he received advertises the ride as the New Lake Winnie 500.

But ask Tally Green the official answer and she says very little.

“We will be announcing a new attraction in the water park very soon,” she said.
