Four acts in tonight’s River City Sessions
River City Sessions, a collaboration of poets, authors, storytellers and musicians whose work honors life in the South, will take place tonight, May 11, at The Granfalloon, 400 E. Main St. Performing will be Cannon & Hailey, Mike Crowder, David Jones and Ivy Leaks.
Organizers say this lineup is so strong that there is no headliner. Everyone is considered equally t al ented, so names will be drawn to see who goes first.
Cannon & Hailey is the duo of Cannon Hunt and Hailey Miller, students at Baylor School. They have a folk- i nspired style, incorporating acoustic sounds and harmonies. Each of them brings a different influence to their music: Cannon’s is classic Southern rock, Hailey is more pop and R&B. The two play covers ranging from hiphop to pop to country, as well as their own music.
David Jones is one of many aspiring writers who has spent a life in other pursuits, but never gave up the dream of being a writer. He first put his creativity with words to use as a songwriter, but has emerged as a poet.
Mike Crowder has played in bands for several years. Now he’s writing his own material and ready to give audiences a taste of his sound, unplugged and unaccompanied.
Ivy Leaks is a duo who are favorites at local open- mic nights performing their original music.
Doors open at 7 p.m., show starts at 7:30.
