Etowah as seen though teens’ eyes
Etowah Depot Museum hosts encore photography exhibit
The Etowah Historical Commission is hosting an exhibit of photographs that document the summer of 2016 as seen through the eyes of 16 middle-school students. Their work is displayed in the upstairs gallery of the Etowah Depot Museum, 727 Tennessee Ave., Etowah, Tenn.
The free exhibit is open for viewing from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Tuesdays-Saturdays.
“Encore: My Community — My World” is a photography exhibit that was taken from a larger exhibit that the Etowah Arts Commission developed in 2016.
Last summer, EAC asked 16 teens who live in different Etowah neighborhoods to document the summer through their experiences. EAC provided a free point-and-shoot camera to each student, along with training and mentoring.
The young photographers met bi-weekly throughout the summer to share their photographs with each other and receive guidance from volunteer coaches. Local volunteers Sandy Brewer, Jim Caldwell, Gwen Lane and Henry Webb served as adult photography coaches.
Brewer, Etowah Historical Commission member, said, “While the Etowah Historical Commission would have liked to present all the photographs that were part of the original exhibit, space constraints in the Depot gallery made it impossible. Fortunately, we are able to include photographs from each student and present an encore exhibit that allows more people to view the extraordinary work the students produced.”
