Sigma Chi celebrates 70th anniversar­y on Saturday

The Delta Theta chapter of Sigma Chi fraternity will celebrate its 70th anniversar­y with a party on Saturday, May 13, at the Sigma Chi house, 905 Siskin Drive.

All brothers, “Little Sisters” and their families are welcome to attend.

The party will begin with an open house at 4 p.m. There will be a cash bar with food such as hamburgers and hot dogs provided by Marsha’s Backstreet Cafe. Sigma Chi memorabili­a, such as golf shirts, mugs, etc., will be for sale at bargain prices.

An official welcome is at 5 p. m., followed by a brief ritual before a few Sigma Chi Distinguis­hed Alumni say a few words. The Pool will provide live music for the party, which concludes at 9 p. m.

Delta Theta chapter was founded May 16- 17, 1947. Among its founding members were Lee Anderson, former editor and publisher of the Chattanoog­a News- Free Press, and Malone Ever- ett, who had a long and distinguis­hed career in the insurance business. Anderson was the f irst president of Delta Theta chapter.

Other notable alumni of the chapter are William “Mickey” Barker, former Chief Justice of the Ten- nessee Supreme Court; Dr. Joel Cunningham, former vice chancellor of the University of the South; and Gavin Maloof, former co- owner of the Sacramento Kings NBA franchise and owner of The Palms Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas.
