Snow Hill Bluegrass Jamboree celebrates 14 years of music
Snow Hill Bluegrass Jamboree will celebrate 14 years of music (that’s 154 shows!) on Saturday, June 3, at the Highway 58 Fire Department’s training center, 9100 Snow Hill Road in Ooltewah.
Doors open at 5 p.m. with concessions for sale. Music starts at 6. Door prizes will be given away during the event.
Normally, six or seven bands perform about 40 minutes each at the monthly jamborees. For this special celebration, only four bands will play, each for one hour.
The night’s lineup is Double Cross Band at 6 p.m., Perry Suits and 3rd Degree at 7:10 p.m., Southwind Bluegrass Band at 8: 20 p. m. and Ed James Bluegrass Band at 9: 30 p.m.
The Snow Hill Bluegrass Jamboree began in June 2003, when several musicians approached Highway 58 Fire Department Chief C. R. Harris about using the training center as a place to play their music. That evolved into a monthly performance by various bands and has continued. Shows are presented on the first Saturday of each month, except December.
Proceeds from the shows help purchase food and toys for needy families in the 112-square-mile area the fire department serves. Once the food is packed and toys wrapped, the volunteer firefighters load fire trucks and make deliveries a few days before Christmas.
