A local rapper and pianist hosts his first headlining performance at the Camp House this week and he’s chosen children in the East Lake Expression Engine as his opening act.

“It’s going to be the chillest of vibes,” says Nabil Ince, who uses the stage name Seaux (pronounced “so”) Chill.

“Seaux Chill Presents: Freedom” will start at 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 8, at the Camp House. General admission for the show is $ 20. A select number of early- bird tickets will be sold for $15.

East Lake Expression Engine will open the show performing a 30-minute set that includes original music the youth wrote this summer. Then Ince will finish the two-hour show with music from his recently released album, “Freedom Ave.”

“It’s going to be an evening of lots of music, lots of fun and smiles,” said Ince, a 21-year-old music major at Covenant College and program director for Expression Engine.

His album of 13 songs includes “Your Love, Part I,” featuring the Covenant College Choir, “What is Life” and “It Always Rains on Tuesdays,” featuring East Lake Expression Engine.

Nabil started working with East Lake Expression Engine as a volunteer four years ago during his freshman year at Covenant. He teaches piano, accompanies youth on the piano, does programming and helps youth playing with the bucket band.

East Lake Expression Engine works through the New City Fellowship tutoring and mentoring program, which partners with the YMCA. During the summer, students participate in daily morning music classes such as choir, bucket band, musicianship and orchestra.

Ince says the experience with the youth has changed his life.

“I’ll always be working with the kids,” said Nabil. “Just seeing how they go through situations and seeing the joy that they have in life despite their trials, seeing that shifted my paradigm. Now I just want to do everything I can to make sure the kids are alright.”
