Mini Maker Faire: A Local Show-and-Tell

Be inspired by the ideas of 80 makers at First Tennessee Pavilion

A gathering of folks whose curious minds lead them to invent, as well as folks who are just plain curious, will take place Saturday, Sept. 9, in First Tennessee Pavilion when t he Chattanoog­a Mini Maker Faire is held from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

This free event is a family friendly showcase of inventors, school groups, techies, crafters and artists who enjoy sharing what they make.

Visitors do more than just view their work, they get to experience interactiv­e exhibits as well as try out hands-on experiment­s.

Plan to stay awhile since there will be so much to see and do. Food trucks will be on-site so you don’t have to leave to get lunch.

Eighty makers are participat­ing this year. Here is a look at 10 of them: › 800 Collective: Artists in this collective will guide visitors in completing a 5-foot by 8-foot mural of Chattanoog­a’s cityscape. › Art Bike Rodeo: Natali Leduc and Art 120’s Urban Art Bike Team will bring their newest fleet of art bikes for visitors to take a spin. › Assistive Technology: Signal Centers will have a variety of commercial and custom-made

assistive-technology products available for hands-on experience­s. Make- andtake craft activity also included. › Chatt Comix

Co- Op: This group of writers and artists bond over an interest in creating comics together. Visitors can check out their original mini- comic anthologie­s and zines — as well as make their own. › Foundry in a Box: Students create their own castings to take home. ›

Gardenchic­k: Learn how to create your own cold- process soap from scratch using lye and oils.

› I ronhorse Railroad: Grandfathe­r- built, quarter- scale backyard railroad. › Lego Brick Bot Bat

tles: Brick Bots are 3- D printed to give each child a uniform base on which to add Legos, then battle an opponent. › Pedal Powered Juice: Exercise bike converted into a pedal- powered juicer that is operated by human power. › Robotic Art: Paint with robots to create a small work of art or just play.
