In-Town Gallery celebrates opening of member exhibition "Wonderland".

Reception Friday night opens new exhibit at In-Town

- STAFF REPORT

In-Town Gallery will begin the new year with its members’ exhibition, “Wonderland.”

Who could predict what images artists would produce when given a title and told to interpret it using their variety of materials and methods?

Meet the artists and see where their imaginations led them at the First Friday reception on Jan. 5 from 5 to 8 p.m. at the gallery, 26-A Frazier Ave.

For example, Leslie Dulin created a lively surface, teeming with bubbles and visual activity, by pouring and manipulating acrylic paint on “A Ribbon Runs Through It.”

Spears McAllester’s photograph, “Yosemite Storm,” covers the spectrum of velvet blacks through grays to bright white.

“Hope Springs,” by Margaret Park, portrays a tree bare of leaves and deep in snow. But warm colors in the background suggest that perhaps winter may not last much longer. She uses watercolor on a yupo surface for selectively removing pigment to create effects not possible in traditional watercolor.

Nadine Koski has done a series of owl paintings that have proven to be a hit with the public. “The Seeker,” done in encaustic, is featured in this exhibition.

These and other two- dimensional creations join sculptures, pottery, woven shawls, hand-dyed silk wearable art and wood pieces customarily displayed in the gallery.

Gallery hours are 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday-Saturday, 1-5 p.m. Sunday.
