Texas quintet’s appearances part of String Theory concert

- STAFF REPORT

String Theory, in partnership with Lee University and the Hunter Museum of American Art, will host its annual Family Concert on Saturday, Jan. 20, at 1 p. m. in Hunter Museum, 10 Bluff View.

The concert will feature WindSync in an interactive retelling of Sergei Prokofiev’s “Peter and the Wolf,” complete with costumes and choreography. The performance will take audiences on an imaginative, musical journey that introduces the five wind instruments of WindSync, cultivates an appreciation for classical music and develops new ways of listening.

A prize-winning Houston- based wind quintet, WindSync is internationally recognized for dramatic, fully memorized concert presentations that often feature collaborators from the worlds of music, dance and multimedia.

Tickets to Saturday’s performance are $15 adults, free for Hunter members, String Theory subscribers and children ages 17 and under. There will be no advance ticket sales.

The Texas quintet’s visit is part of the annual String Theory Residency Program. The ensemble’s visit will include a master class at Lee in Pangle Hall on Friday, Jan. 19, at 3 p.m.

On Tuesday, Jan. 23, WindSync will present a concert in the String Theory series at 6: 30 p. m. at Hunter Museum.

Prior to the concert, Art Connections will take place at 5: 30 p. m. inside the Hunter gallery. Ellen Simak, former Hunter Museum chief curator, and Robert Bernhardt, conductor emeritus of the Chatta- nooga Symphony & Opera and artist-in-residence at Lee University, will explore works from the Hunter collection that relate to the music featured in that evening’s performance.
