‘Cartoon Capers’ a family-friendly whodunit

Christian Family Theater hosts dinner/dessert shows

- STAFF REPORT

Twenty-five classic cartoon characters will be brought to life at a dinner theater when Christian Family Theater presents “Cartoon Capers.”

Performances are scheduled Friday and Saturday nights, Jan. 26-27, with a matinee on Sunday, Jan. 28, at Brainerd United Methodist Church. Saturday evening’s show has sold out.

Here’s the premise: Everyone’s favorite Saturday- morning cartoon characters have gathered for Satoon Con, the Saturday-morning cartoon characters’ conference held by the country’ s biggest cartoon multi conglomerate.

Doors will open 30 minutes prior to the show for a meet-and-greet with the cartoon characters before seating for the meal begins. Children and their parents will recognize the Jetsons, Flintstones, Smurfs and Boris and Natasha from “The Adventures of Rocky and Bullwinkle and Friends.”

Once guests have had a chance to rub elbows with their favorite funnies, they proceed to the dining hall for the evening’s dinner. There they learn the company’s CEO is missing. Foul play is suspected and the worst is feared.

It will take one of the cartoon world’s greatest criminal minds to unravel this mystery — Inspector Gadget. Even with the help of other cartoon investigators, will Inspector Gadget get to the bottom of this mystery before the end of the night?

Dale Dye is directing “Cartoon Capers,” Hannah Riddle is stage manager and Denise Dye has coordinated costuming.

Friday night’s dinner theater menu includes salad, baked spaghetti with choice of meat or marinara sauce, bread, tea and dessert. Tickets are $ 20 apiece.

When purchasing dinner tickets, callers must specify meat or marinara sauce for the spaghetti order of each attendee in their party. Once ordered, the choice may not be changed the night of the show.

Sunday’s dessert theater will offer an assortment of cookies, cakes and pastries. Tickets are $15.
