- STAFF REPORT

Looking f or a f un and romantic evening to extend Valentine Day’s romance with your special someone?

Sit in on the next performance of The Concert Series: A Collection of Roots Music on Friday, Feb. 16, at 7 p.m. The twohour performance will be held at the Creative Arts Guild, 520 W. Waugh St. in Dalton, Ga.

The Peacock Alley Jazz Group will present an intimate evening of jazz in the guild’s Jonas Hall. The ensemble is comprised of local musicians Paul Byrum on bass, Frank Giammarella on piano and Ken Hamilton on percussion. The trio will be joined by guest vocalist Charlsey Etheridge.

Each of the trio’s members are employed by mills in Dalton, thus the nod to the city’s “Peacock Alley” heritage.

Peacock Alley was the nickname given old Highway 41 between Dalton and Atlanta during the early 1900s when colorful tufted-cotton chenille bedspreads with peacock designs beckoned travelers to stop and buy. This early cottage industry led to the birth of the tufted- carpet industry, eventually making Dalton the “Carpet Capital of the World.”

“We are thrilled to be part of the expanding music community in the Dalton area by offering a space for musicians to share their art in a concert-style listening environment, where patrons can have easy access to f ine quality entertainment without l eaving t own,” says Amanda Brown, Creative Arts Guild executive director.

Tickets are $10 adults, $8 senior adults and students with valid ID. Reservations are recommended; parties of six or more should contact the guild to reserve a table.
