Unity Dance Troupe performs ‘The Veil’ at Lee

- STAFF REPORT

Lee University welc omes Unity Dance Troupe to campus for three performances of “The Veil: The Glory of Creation” on Feb. 16-18 in the Conn Center, 150 11th St., Cleveland, Tenn.

Performances Friday and Saturday will be at 7 p.m. with a 2:30 p.m. matinee on Sunday.

“The Veil” is a performance about creation that shows God as an intimate, joyful creator, who takes pleasure in his creation of the world and delight in forming man in his own image. The production has more than 120 hand-painted masks and costumes and a cast of 52 dancers.

“As author and director of ‘The Veil,’ it is my pleasure to experience the joys of creation with all who watch the performance,” said Alexis Burleson, a Lee alumna and founder of Unity Dance Troupe. “The message of ‘ The Veil’ is simple: God is not distant and angry. He will go to any lengths to prove his undying love.”

Unity Dance Troupe was established in 2010 by Burleson as a performing arts touring company and discipleship program. The company has four productions that explore themes from creation to the heart of God. The group has traveled internationally to Colombia and Belgium.

“It is our desire as a troupe to bring heaven to earth for all those who attend our shows,” said dancer Merrily Suits. “We want to display God’s heart toward his creation through the art of dance in a way that his heart was intended to be seen, through a lens of knowing that we were created in his glory.”

This event is free, nonticketed and open to the public.
