‘Godspell’ is Dalton State’s first musical

Dalton State College Theater will present “Godspell” in three performanc­es Friday-Sunday, April 20-22, in Pope Student Center.

“Godspell” is t he 1971 musical with music and lyrics by Stephen Schwartz, that relates the timeless tale of friendship, loyalty and love based on t he Gospel according to St. Matthew.

A small group of people help Jesus Christ tell parables by using a wide variety of games, storytelli­ng techniques and hefty doses of comic timing. An eclectic blend of songs, ranging in style from pop to vaudeville, is used as Jesus’ messages of kindness, tolerance and love come to life.

The musical is known for its hit song “Day By Day,” a folk rock ballad that crossed over into Top 40 pop at the time.

“As far as I know, this is the first time a musical has been performed at Dalton State,” says Kim Correll, lecturer in communicat­ion and theater and director of the musical.

“I am so excited for everyone to see t his amazing cast. They are so talented and so dedicated. I believe you will be highly entertaine­d and uplifted by this show,” she says.

The cast includes Steven Green, Jake Baker, Inna Kouznaieva, Britni Shipp, Chloe Gray, Kristen West, Madison Hammons, Clare Ballantyne, Nick Hickman and Will Hardin.
