Unity Dance Troupe presents ‘The Veil’

- STAFF REPORT

The story of creation and the life of Jesus will be told through dance when Unity Dance Troupe presents “The Veil” in two performances on Friday and Saturday, April 20-21, at the Wink Theatre in Calhoun, Ga.

Unity Dance Troupe of Cleveland, Tenn., formed in 2010 as a performing arts touring company and discipleship program.

“The Veil” presents the story of creation as told through the perspective of God’s eyes, says Austin Burleson, director of operations. “It takes the viewer through the seven days of creation, then fast-forwards to the fall of man.”

Burleson says at that point, a 30-foot veil will be lowered onto the stage, representing the separation of man from God. Jesus appears onstage and the audience follows his story to his crucifixion and the tearing of the veil, representing how his death removed barriers between God and man.

Dancing the role of Adam is William Moore. Allison Barnes is cast as Eve, and Anna Thompson dances the role of the serpent.

Burleson says the 50 cast members dance to tracks by multiple composers. The cast’s wardrobe includes 120 hand-painted costumes and masks.

There is no charge to attend, and seating is first-come, first-served. However, there is a $25 preferred- seating ticket, which allows the holder to be seated in the first three rows. Proceeds from sales of these tickets benefit Unity’s international missions.
