‘Fresh’ reception opens In-Town’s all-member exhibit
In-Town Gallery will open its May exhibit, “Fresh,” at its First Friday reception on May 4 from 5 to 8 p.m. in the gallery, 26-A Frazier Ave.
“Fresh” is the theme the gallery’s spring all-member show. In-Town has done some spring cleaning and all paintings, jewelry and three-dimensional works that have been in the gallery more than six months have been removed and new works brought in. The theme also represents the opportunity to introduce new members and showcase their work.
New member Ellen Biven has loved drawing and painting from childhood. Her student days at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga and Virginia Commonwealth University resulted in a bachelor’s degree in art education. Along with teaching, she has continued to study painting and printmaking.
Aerial photographer Ron Lowery has filled two coffee-table books with his bird’s-eye views of this country that he shot from an open-cockpit plane he built with his son.
Charlie Yowell made his first movable art pieces in 1988 using wire coat hangers. From that start came moving, stainedglass and copper pieces that could be hung outdoors. His present work is of animals using glass geodes and objects that move.
“Fresh” includes paintings, photography, turned-wood bowls, lamps, pottery, glass pieces and metal sculpture.
In-Town Gallery is open 11 a.m.-6 p.m. Monday-Saturday and 1-5 p.m. Sundays.
