Two-day Street Food Festival at Chattanooga Market

- STAFF REPORT

Two dozen food truck chefs will vie in a cookoff Saturday, May 26, to win a Golden Ticket to the World Food Championships in Orange Beach, Alabama.

That’s just part of the fun when the two- day Chattanooga Street Food Festival is held at Chattanooga Market in First Tennessee Pavilion, 1826 Carter St.

Usually just open on Sundays, the market is expanding to two days to give foodies a chance to try doughnuts, tacos, grilled cheese sandwiches, stir-fry, pizza, empanadas, kabobs, popsicles, salads, rice bowls and beverages from a truck. Wear your stretchy pants and come hungry.

The market will be open Saturday from 10 a. m. to 6 p.m. There’s no admission, just the cost of buying a meal from a food truck. Listen to the music of The Stratoblasters from 2 to 4 p.m. while sampling different foods and watching the cookoff.

Chattahooligans might want to arrive at the pavilion a little early to pick up a bite for dinner before the Chattanooga Football Club plays the New Orleans Jesters at 7:30 p.m. in Finley Stadium. Game tickets are $10.

Sunday’s Street Food Fair will be held during regular market hours of 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. In addition to getting lunch from a truck, visitors can shop the market’s produce, meats, art or purchase a bouquet from the numerous flower vendors.

Sunday’s market visitors will be entertained by Brian Ashley Jones at 12:30 p.m. and Connection 27 at 2 p.m.
