Improv comedy + high school formal = PROMedy on Saturday
What do you remember about your high school prom?
Did it live up to your movie-hyped expectations? Are you still trying to repress memories of that socially awkward night? Or did you just not go because you were too cool?
Improv Chattanooga is offering audiences the chance to relive their teen years when it hosts Improv vs. StandUp PROMedy on Saturday night, June 23, at the improv club, 1800 Rossville Ave., Suite 106.
“This is a show that, as far we know, doesn’t happen anywhere else,” says Improv Chattanooga’s Steve Disbrow.
“We will have four local stand-ups and featured guest Aaron Chasteen from Atlanta, who will come up and do a seven-minute set each. Chasteen will do a 10-minute set. Between each standup comedian, Improv Chattanooga will come up and do improv based on elements pulled from their stand-up acts.”
Since the improvisers have no idea what the stand-up jokes involve until hearing them, their comedy is always new and spontaneous.
Disbrow says the show will be hosted by Bridgette Martin. The four standup comics will be Morgan Gray, Bryant Smith, Luke Marter and Donnie Marsh. DJ services will be provided by Common Criminal.
At the end of each block, audience members can vote with their dollars who entertained them most. This money, along with a portion of ticket proceeds, will be donated to local nonprofits Chattanooga Girls Rock and First Chairs Club.
Following the comedy show, a ’90s dance party will be held. Disbrow says this will be the only comedy show Saturday night due to the extended format with the accompanying dance.
The event is for ages 18 and older. The show is rated R.
Tickets are $10 in advance, $15 at the door and $5 for students. Anyone pre-ordering a ticket will receive a free small popcorn at check-in.
