Reception Friday opens mother-daughter exhibit

A free reception Friday night, July 13, at the Creative Arts Guild will open a new exhibit by mother-daughter artists Phyllis Burkhart Wilson and Lana Wilson. The pair will be on hand beginning at 5:30 p. m. to meet guests and discuss their work in Jonas Hall of the Guild, 520 W. Waugh St. in Dalton, Georgia.

The Wilsons have been making art for over 50 years, but this is the first time the Guild has presented their work side-byside.

Phyllis Wilson says she began to experiment with ink, pencils and watercol- ors in 1983.

“Being able to express my innermost spirit with the elements of painting is an exhilarating experience, a gift from God. Natural settings and music inspire me to create contemporary paintings using watercolors and colored pencils,” says says.

Lana Wilson says her works “represent a very contemporary approach to painting. In an unorthodox approach, the act of making art becomes more important than the actual image. I am involved in each creation by responding to forms which develop images over images, lines, spacial formats and colors pleasing to the eye and stimulating to the mind.”

In addition to the new exhibit, the Guild will offer its first “Art Talking To Art.” This collaboration with Jody Harris and the Dalton Writer’s Guild will present performances of prose, poetry and spoken word inspired by, and paired with, the artwork on display in the Guild’s galleries and sculpture garden.

Performing will be Harris, Sherry Patterson, Cat Pyne, Angelina Vaquera- Linke, Joe Vidalez, Cynthia Wilson and Marjorie Yambor.
