Gingerbread workshops begin Friday at children’s museum

A favorite family holiday activity returns Friday, Nov. 23, to the Creative Discovery Museum, 321 Chestnut St.

Gingerbread workshops, during which little architects and their parents can build a holiday showpiece, will be offered multiple times through Sunday, Dec. 23. But reservations are encouraged because these workshops always sell out in advance.

During each workshop, children and their families decorate a gingerbread house and cookies with icing and candy as cheerful holiday music plays in the background. Best of all, parents can relax and enjoy time with their children while museum staff handle the cleanup.

“We are excited to host another season of Gingerbread Workshops at Creative Discovery Museum,” says Jayne Griffin, director of education at Creative Discovery Museum.

“Gingerbread Workshops at CDM have become holiday traditions for many families as they offer the perfect way for every member of the family to celebrate the holidays in a fun, creative and stress-free environment.”

Workshops last approximately one hour. Space is limited, and registration is required. Fees for the workshop are $ 25 for museum members, $45 nonmembers, which includes admission for three people into the museum.

Additionally, children can visit the Holiday Shoppe while they are at the museum to pick up presents for loved ones.

The Holiday Shoppe, which also opens Nov. 23, is the only shop of its kind in the area. It is designed to introduce a child to the concept of a budget, as well as the joy of giving a gift that will be a surprise.

The Shoppe allows children to pick out reasonably priced items, pay for them and, with just a little bit of help, wrap the gifts.
