Ballet Tennessee presents Mother’s Day performances

The romantic, old-world ballet “Pas de Quatre” will highlight Ballet Tennessee’s Spring Festival of Dance on Sunday, May 12, at 6 p.m. at Center for Creative Arts, 1301 Dallas Road. The classic ballet provides the opportunity to spend time with Mom enjoying the cultural arts on Mother’s Day.

The dance festival will feature students from the VanCura Ballet Conservatory of Ballet Tennessee as well as the Ballet Tennessee Company — about 100 dancers in all. The program will offer performances in many genres of dance in addition to the “Pas de Quatre.”

Featured performers in the “Pas de Quatre” will be Jenison Owens, Sophia Ledford, Lauren White and Caroline Avery. Owens and White are dancers on Ballet Tennessee’s faculty, the remaining two are students in the professional training program.

“Pas de Quatre” was originally choreographed in 1845 by Jules Perrot. For this performance, it has been restaged by Anna Baker-VanCura.

Tickets for the evening performance are $20 adults, $18 students and senior adults. The Center for Creative Arts’ box office will open 30 minutes prior to the performance.

The Ballet Tennessee Primary Recital will take place Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Center for Creative Arts.

This performance showcases students from the Primary Division of VanCura Ballet Conservatory, which is composed of creative movement, pre-ballet and primary ballet classes.

The Primary Recital will open with a performance by the second cast of “Pas de Quatre,” also restaged by Anna Baker-VanCura.
