Karen Mills headlines comedy benefit

- STAFF REPORT

Comedian Karen Mills is headlining a benefit tonight, May 30, to help with medical expenses for a 19-year-old girl fighting leukemia for the second time. The fundraiser will be held in The Comedy Catch, 1400 Market St.

“Lyrics, Laughter and Love” will combine laughs by Mills, a former Lady Mocs basketball player at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, with music by Priscilla and Little RicKee.

Mills has been a nationally touring comedian for 25 years and can be heard daily on Sirius XM comedy channels. She appeared on Season 12 of “America’s Got Talent” and her new comedy special, “Pink Pants,” was recently released on Dry Bar Comedy.

Show time is 7:30 p.m. and tickets are $20.

Priscilla and Little RicKee have played together for 27 years, beginning at Las Margaritas in Riverview. The band is comprised of Donna Coleman, Nan Murphy, Sharon Hale, Ashley Cofield, Gary Bartley and Andrew Chauncey. They are known for their wide range of musical styles.

› Stand-up comic Tim Wright will take the stage at The Comedy Catch on Friday-Sunday, May 31-June 2.

Honing his craft at open-mic nights, Wright’s comedic observations on growing up, dating and everyday life as a single dad provided him with more than enough material to win the 2010 Beach’s Best Comic Award.

Tickets for 7:30 p.m. shows Friday and Saturday are $16. Tickets are $11 for Sunday’s 7:30 p.m. show.
