HONEYBEE FESTIVAL: BEES, BICYCLES AND THE BEATERS

There’s a lot of buzz about Rodney Atkins in LaFayette, Georgia, where the country singer will take the stage Saturday night, June 1, at the Honeybee Festival.

The third Honeybee Festival will offer four stages of music beginning at 9 a.m., with Atkins closing out the festival at his 9:30 p.m. show. Atkins has had six No. 1 hits including the smash single “Watching You.”

In addition to live music, the free community event will include a Kids Zone, barbecue competitio­n, baking contest, cruisein, craft and food vendors and honeybee displays by beekeepers with informatio­n/educationa­l exhibits.

The fun begins on Honeybee Eve with activities at the Ross Abney Complex, 101 First St. in LaFayette, on Friday, May 31.

The Honeybee Steak Competitio­n will begin at the complex at 5 p.m. Kids can ride a miniature Thomas the Train for free from 6:30 to 10 p.m. And The Beaters will perform from 7 to 10 p.m.

Saturday’s festival fun begins with the MetricCent­ury bicycle ride at 7:30 a.m.

This bike ride offers rides of different lengths to participan­ts. New this year is a 100-mile Walker Rocks Ride. Other ride options are the 34-mile historic ride or the 63-mile See Rock City Metric. After their ride, cyclists can visit the festival for great food and entertainm­ent. Each rider will receive a Rock City pass and $6.50 meal voucher to be used at selected local restaurant­s.
