Not everyone waits until July 4 to celebrate Independence Day. Here’s a list of fun for the Fourth happening in area small towns in coming days.
FORT PAYNE, ALABAMA
Rattlebone band is headlining the Independence Day celebration in Fort Payne on Tuesday, July 2, at the Fort Payne Sports Complex, 4501 Gault Ave. The free patriotic party is from 5 to 9:30 p.m. CDT.
Rattlebone is comprised of Johnny Neel (former member of the Allman Brothers), Chris Anderson (former member of The Outlaws), Dennis Gulley and Daryl Burgess.
GRAYSVILLE, TENNESSEE
The city of Graysville’s Volunteer Fire Department announces FreedomFest will be Saturday, June 29, in Kristopher’s Kingdom Park, 475 Blacktrack Road.
This annual fundraiser for the department starts at 4 p.m. with delicious food, rockin’ bands, games, water slide and an auction at 6 p.m. The party wraps up with fireworks around 9:45 p.m.
HIXSON
Bring a chair for seating and enjoy dinner and fireworks in Camp Columbus, hosted by the Father Patrick J. Ryan Council 610 of Knights of Columbus.
This year the fun starts at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, July 3, at the campground, 8601 Camp Columbus Road.
Live music begins at 6 p.m. There will be a variety of vendors, food for sale and games for the whole family. Donations will be accepted to benefit the council’s charitable work. Fireworks will close out the party. Coolers and pets are not permitted.
LAFAYETTE, GEORGIA
The city of LaFayette always hosts its Freedom Festival on the Friday prior to July 4 at the LaFayette Recreation Department, 638 S. Main St.
So this year’s free party begins at 5 p.m. on June 28. Small Town Rumor performs at 6 p.m. followed at 8 p.m. by Power Play featuring Amber Carrington.
Freedom Festival includes an Old Timers Baseball Game, corn hole tournament, music, a Krystal-eating contest at 7:45 p.m., free swim at the city pool from 5 to 7:30 p.m. and a Pro Wrestling LaFayette show. Vendors will offer everything from barbecue sandwiches to balloon animals.
The evening will cap off with a state-of-the-art fireworks show at 10 p.m.
SPRING CITY, TENNESSEE
Watermelon and pickle-eating contests are part of the old-fashioned fun at Shake the Lake, the annual Independence Day celebration in Spring City’s Veterans Park on Saturday, June 29.
Those contests will be divided by ages, and contestants can sign up between noon and 1 p.m.
There will be five age divisions for Mr. and Miss Firecracker Pageant, with sign-ups at 9 a.m. No pageant wear will be allowed.
The festival will also include food and craft vendors, a 50/50 drawing and duck race. Guests will be entertained by “American Idol” finalist and Spring City native Drake McCain along with Rhea Springs Revival before fireworks at dark.
