Reception opens three exhibits in Dalton

- STAFF REPORT

The Creative Arts Guild in Dalton, Georgia, will open three galleries of works on display during July with an artist reception on Friday, July 12, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. The public is invited to view the exhibits, enjoy light refreshments and meet the artists to chat about their inspirations, mediums and techniques. The Guild is located at 520 W. Waugh St. in Dalton.

› In Gallery Five20, Chris Beck of Dalton joins the Creative Arts Guild for his first Dalton solo show. After earning a bachelor’s degree in English, Beck worked in Atlanta. During that time, he met Alabama art legend Charlie Lucas, who encouraged him to “find what’s inside.”

Inspired by Lucas’ work, Beck purchased a second-hand welder in 2007 and began working with metal. His work, widely collected nationally and internationally, has been recognized with numerous awards, magazine and newspaper articles, museum purchases and public art installations.

› Exhibiting in Jonas Hall and Gallery One11, will be Mixed Media Inspired Artists, a group of artists from Chattanooga and the surrounding area who work in a contemporary style that incorporates mixed media and collage elements.

In Gallery One11 will be “Dimensions,” a mixed-media exhibit of sculptures assembled from various boxes, wood and metal materials, found and repurposed items and art materials.

MMIA’s second exhibit, “Language of Layers” in Jonas Hall, is a collection of acrylic and mixed-media works that are the result of the group’s signature layering style. For more information: www.creativeartsguild.org or 706-279-3129.
