CAMPUS CONCERTS
Southern Adventist University will host acclaimed double bassist Xavier Foley in a recital Tuesday, Nov. 5, at 7:30 p.m. in Ackerman Auditorium on the university’s campus in Collegedale.
The performance will include Foley’s double concerto “For Justice and Peace,” a piece commissioned by Carnegie Hall and the Sphinx Organization.
Foley received the 2018 Avery Fisher Career Grant and New York’s WQXR radio station included him on its “19 for 19” artists to watch list. He has traveled extensively as a concert soloist.

“When I programmed this Liederabend, I thought it would be fascinating to feature one poem that is written in three different settings by three composers to show diverse perspectives,” says Lee.

Dr. Mark Bailey conducts the symphonic band in a concert marking its 30th anniversary. The band’s vocal ensemble and rhythm section will be featured. Current and alumni members will perform.
Since forming in 1989 with 18 students, the band has grown to 47 musicians, toured across the United States as well as to 17 countries on five continents. It was the first collegiate band in the nation to perform in Jordan and, in 2011, the first U.S. concert band to perform in Cuba since 1958.
