‘Pirates of Penzance’ sails into Chattanooga State

- STAFF REPORT Compiled by Susan Pierce.

Chattanooga State Community College’s Theatre and Music departments will present “The Pirates of Penzance” in three performances this weekend beginning Friday, Nov. 15.

“The Pirates of Penzance” is Gilbert and Sullivan’s most popular comic operetta, known for its tongue-twisting show-stopper “I Am the Very Model of a Modern Major General.”

The two-act musical focuses on Frederic, who is released from an apprenticeship to a band of tenderhearted pirates on his 21st birthday. He meets Mabel, and it’s love at first sight. Frederic soon learns, however, that his Feb. 29 birthday means his apprenticeship hasn’t been fulfilled. He must serve for another 63 years.

The production is directed by Sherry Landrum with musical direction by John Thomas McCecil. Choreography is by Lindsay Fussell. Costumes are by Brenda Schwab, with set design by Sarah Miecielica.

The cast features Terrance Wright as the Pirate King, Jordan Pope as Frederic, Sarah Grayce Crouch as Mabel and Ryan Laskowski as the Major General.

Other cast members are Josh Alonso, Evan Coulter, Kat Fincher, Chase Garrels, Destin Henry, Lauryn Lawson, Faith Livingston, MaryBeth Mangrum, Cole McClain, Maddie Meier,

Richard Nichols, Makayla Pippin, Lydia Reed, Bria Rennick, Art Sanner, Tessa Sentell, Sydney Smith and Miles White.

Tickets to this family-friendly production can be purchased in advance online at www. chattanoogastate.edu/theatre or at the door before each performance.
