- — Staff Report

The Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office arrested Adam Randolph, 48, of Burnsville, N.C., on preliminary charges of attempted first-degree murder Saturday evening after he attempted to run over an officer with his car, police said.

Park rangers responded to Enterprise South Nature Park near 8015 Volkswagen Drive where they found Randolph and Kevin Conaley visibly intoxicated. The two men got into Randolph’s sedan and left the scene.

As an officer ordered Randolph to stop, Randolph steered the car toward the officer and accelerated. The officer was able to jump out of the way. A second officer in a squad car followed the two men until they surrendered in the Volkswagen facility near the park. Conaley immediately turned himself over to police, but officers had to chase and tackle Randolph.

A K-9 drug dog found a small white rock and a glass crack pipe inside Randolph’s vehicle. Police obtained a search warrant for his blood.

He was booked into the Hamilton County Jail on preliminary charges of attempted first-degree murder, driving under the influence, driving with a revoked license, possession of a controlled substance, public intoxication, possession of drug paraphernalia, evading arrest and violating the implied consent law.

Conaley was charged with public intoxication and resisting arrest.

Randolph’s bail was set at $51,500. Both men will appear in court Thursday.
