2014 KITCHEN TRENDS

The new year is just around the corner, and it promises some exciting new developments in kitchen trends. Gone are the days when kitchens were just kitchens. Now, kitchens are decorated as much as any other room of the house.

Natural finishes with natural textures and grains will be the trends in 2014. Natural finishes, as well as other lightcolored stains like whites and off-whites, help your kitchen appear larger and open.

Instead of filling the entire kitchen with cabinets and leaving no space to breathe, designers are opting for floor-to-ceiling cabinets. Full-height cabinets create adequate storage space, improving the balance of the kitchen. Shaker-style cabinets have always been a timeless classic, but for 2014 the trend is moving toward more decorative, embellished details on the cabinets that add interest to plain, boring ones.

For the cabinets themselves, there is a growing interest in a countrys tyle look . Instead of shutting the cabinets entirely, see - through glassfront cabinet doors in white and off-white are gaining momentum. The glass reflects light, making the kitchen appear fresh and airy. Built-in cabinets that conceal appliances are another huge trend slated to peak in 2014. Concealed appliances blend in seamlessly without breaking the visual appeal of the kitchen.

The kitchen is usually the most expensive room in the house to build, so do it right.

Mix old with new for a contemporary combo. This look is both easy to achieve and highly unique. Go for an overall unfinished and antique look and add a few stainless steel pieces to give it a new touch, or look to a modern kitchen with a few antique pieces placed.
