Explosion rocks home

The owner of a Big Ridge home said he heard an explosion downstairs before his home caught fire Saturday morning.

A news release said Chattanooga firefighters sent to the 1900 block of Summerbreeze Lane found smoke and flames coming from a basement utility garage on the back side of the home.

It took firefighters less than 30 minutes to put out the fire. No injuries were reported and the fire, smoke and water damage was confined to the basement.

The homeowner said he heard an explosion that rocked the house. He went to the basement to see what had caused the noise and saw his home was on fire.

Chattanooga police and Hamilton County EMS and EPB were on scene to assist, the release stated.
