Preliminary medical examiner reports for Chattanooga’s two most recent homicide victims show that one woman was shot once, while another woman was shot about seven times.

Jerica Jackson, 22, was shot multiple times in the head, neck and chest area. Police responded to a shots fired call in the 4600 block of Trailwood Drive and found Jackson dead inside an SUV on June 12.

No one has been arrested or charged with her death.

Another woman, Ashley McKenzie, 20, was killed two days after Jackson on June 14. She answered the door at a home on Cambridge Drive around 1:30 a.m. and was shot once in the head, according to the medical examiner’s report.

McKenzie, a member of the Army National Guard, was the 17th person to be killed in Chattanooga this year. Police have not made an arrest in her slaying.

Investigators say they have “significant leads” in Jackson’s case, but are still looking for more information on the homicide. For McKenzie, police are still gathering details and ask that anyone with information come forward.

Chattanooga police have arrested suspects in five of the year’s 17 homicides, according to Times Free Press records. There have been no arrests or named suspects in 10 pending cases, while in two cases, the shooter was identified but not charged.

In one of those cases, a 22-year-old man unintentionally shot and killed a 19-year-old woman and was not charged for her death. In another case, a 30-year-old man shot and killed a 19-year-old man when the teenager attempted to rob him. He also was not charged.
