Oscar Buford Henderson “Obie”

Obie Henderson, 86, passed away peacefully in his sleep on July 24, 2016, with his sister, Marty at his bedside.

Obie was born on April 21, 1930 in Kenvir, Ky., to Viola and Oscar Henderson.

Obie was predecease­d by his brother, Billy; and his parents.

His church affiliatio­n was Chattanoog­a Presbyteri­an Church. Obie was a veteran of the Navy from Nov. 21, 1950, to Sept. 10, 1954.

Obie graduated from Marshal College in Business. He taught Business at a University in Cleveland Ohio as well as retired from the Cleveland Plain Dealer as an editor.

After retiring Obie was the Personal Assistant to the Mayor of Cleveland.

Later Obie moved to West Brow, Lookout Mountain, Tenn.

He is the dear brother of Marty Cook.

He was lovingly cared for by Marty and Bryant.

He will be missed by his family and friends.

Obie will be remembered for his love of art, his love of food, his wit and his love for his family and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, July 28, 2016, at Hamilton Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Ronnie Smith officiatin­g.

Entombment will follow at Sequatchie Valley Memorial Cemetery in Jasper, Tenn.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, July 27, 2016, at the funeral home.
