‘Pirates of Penzance’ at Artistic Civic Theatre
Ben Southerland plays Frederic in the Artistic Civic Theatre’s production of Gilbert & Sullivan’s comic opera “The Pirates of Penzance,” playing the next two weekends on ACT’s Mashburn Stage, 907 Gaston St. in Dalton, Ga. Mistakenly apprenticed to a pirate (instead of a pilot) at age 8, Frederic is ready to leave his band of tenderhearted pirates until a technicality (his leap year birthday means he must serve another 63 years) burdens his sense of duty. His only consolation is that his new love promises to wait for him faithfully. The rollicking production includes the much parodied “Major-General’s Song.” Shows are at 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday, July 29-30; 2 p.m. Sunday, July 31; and at 8 p.m. Thursday through Sunday, Aug. 4-6. Admission is $15 for adults, $13 for seniors 55+, $11 for students (K-college), with $2 discounts for ACT members. To reserve tickets, call 706-278-4796 or visit www.actdalton.org
