Firefighters raise money for Muscular Dystrophy Association
Members of the Chattanooga Fire Department and the Chattanooga Fire Fighters Association, Local 820, kicked off their annual Fill the Boot fundraising campaign for the Muscular Dystrophy Association on Thursday.
More than 370 firefighters are fanning out across Chattanooga from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. today with boots in hand to collect donations for MDA.
Last year the Chattanooga Fire Department finished first in the state by raising $84,063. This year’s goal is to raise $100,000 for MDA.
The funds raised support research to find urgently needed treatments and cures for muscular dystrophy, ALS and related diseases that severely limit strength and mobility. The funds also support the MDA Care Center at Vanderbilt Medical Center in Nashville and they help send local kids to MDA summer camp at no cost to their families. The Chattanooga Fire Fighters Association, Local 820, is also a key sponsor of this fundraising drive.
No streets and/or intersections will be closed during the event.
