-

A man was arrested in DeKalb County after authorities found a large amount of chemicals and finished explosives in his home on Tuesday.

The Sheriff’s Office initially received a call from a man stating that his wife was threatening to harm herself, but when deputies arrived at the home on County Road 803, they made contact with her and determined she was all right, according to a release.

However, the wife told deputies that her husband was manufacting explosives inside the home, prompting them to search the home and contact the State Fire Marshall, ATF, the Ider Police Department and an EOD unit from the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency.

Deputies found the chemicals and explosives in the home, as well as five or six devices that had been set off in the yard. All of this was removed from the home and made safe.

Russell Neal Godwin, 43, was arrested and charged on three counts of criminal possession of explosives. He was transported to the county detention center where he remains on a $45,000 bond.
