San Juan, the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga women’s golf team was tied for second after Sunday’s opening round of the 20-team Palmetto Intercollegiate at Kiawah Island, S.C. San Juan, a sophomore, made five birdies as she opened with a 2-underpar 70 — as did Madisen Bentley of Ole Miss and College of Charleston’s Laura
Fuenfstueck — on the 5,972-yard Turtle Point course where UTC finished second last year. The leading trio are one stroke ahead of Elon’s Aurelia Hamm. The Mocs shot 4-over 292 Sunday and shared second with Coastal Carolina, two strokes behind Ole Miss. Mocs freshmen Holly Morgan and Maria Pineiro are part of a nine-way tie for ninth at 73, and junior Cristina Perez is tied with 11 others for 34th at 76. Also competing for UTC is Megan Woods, who shot a 79. ›
Dalton State moved up six spots to sixth in the NAIA men’s golf rankings this past week. The Bushnell Golfweek NAIA Coaches Poll was released Friday, and the Roadrunners had 178 points. Oklahoma City got nine of the 10 first-place votes and totaled 249 points, eight more than second-place Texas Wesleyan.
SOCCER
› UTC ended its women’s soccer regular season Sunday with a 1-0 Southern Conference loss at UNC Greensboro. The Spartans (7-10-2, 4-4-1) prevailed on Lauren Daniels’ 61st-minute goal, her first this season, which was assisted by Cienna Rideout. Freshman keeper Melia Correa made four saves for the Mocs (6-10-2, 4-4-1), who were outshot 13-11 overall but held an 8-5 edge on goal. UTC tied UNCG for fifth in the final league standings, but the Mocs will be the No. 6 seed for the So Con tournament. They play third-seeded Mercer at 4 p.m. next Sunday in Macon, Ga. ›
The Lee University soccer teams hosted Delta State in a Gulf South Conference doubleheader Sunday, winning the women’s game 2-0 and drawing 1-1 in double overtime in the men’s match. McKenzie Bricker and

Cloud both credited with an assist on Bricker’s 65th-minute score and Peters set up by

› Led by a fourth-place individual finish from Emily Poole, the Dalton State College women’s cross country runners finished fifth out of 27 teams in Saturday’s Sand Shark Invitational hosted by USC-Beaufort in Hardeeville, S.C. The DSC men were sixth out of 23 teams, led by Ryan Gebelein in 20th and Cole Thornton in 27th in the 8k. Bryan’s Tyler Boone was fifth in 25:14, and seventh-place Tennessee Wesleyan’s Javier
Garcia and Bailey Gannon were 25th and 31st. Poole set a personal best for the season in the 5k with a 17:43, and Natalie Hensley was 26th with sixth-place Wesleyan’s Leah
Chance, Hannah Rhodes and Mysteree Bottoroff 25th, 27th and 28th. Chattanoogan Sarah Kate Gartman was 15th to help nationally eighth-ranked Milligan win the team title.
