Elderly woman critical after fire

A 78-year-old woman had to be pulled from a house fire at 1003 N. Hickory St. Saturday morning.

The woman was in critical condition Monday at Erlanger Medical Center.

Heavy smoke was visible around the small, one-story house when firefighters arrived on scene. A man met the firefighters in the front yard shouting a woman was still inside.

Firefighters found the woman unconscious on the floor in a bathroom. They carried her outside and administered CPR before she was transported to Erlanger.

The fire appeared to have started in the kitchen and was beginning to spread to the attic before firefighters got the blaze under control.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
