Too much attention deficit for bingeing

For those of you who binge-watch on a regular basis, how does it work? Do you watch a couple of episodes, get up and piddle around for a little bit, then go back? Do you sit there and devour all the episodes in a single setting. Are drugs involved?

About once a week, some of my Facebook friends will post that they’ve just bingewatched (insert a TV show name here). They’ve spent six, seven, eight hours watching an entire season in a single day.

How do they do it?

I’m lucky if I can watch three hours of a show before I simply must stop and go do something else. And even after I finish doing whatever it is I do, I generally can’t go back and pick up where I left off on the show. I usually have to wait a day or two.

I have no idea why that is. ADHD is a possible explanation, but isn’t that an explanation for everything these days? Perhaps it’s just nervous energy — but isn’t that just an old way to say ADHD?

I have a couple of TV shows sitting on my DVR right now — several episodes of the new season of “Sleepy Hollow,” which I got hooked on when it debuted on Fox in 2013.

But I also have the complete first season of HBO’s “Westworld,” which several friends recommended, but haven’t watched a single one.

I have the eight-episode miniseries “11.22.63” based on Stephen King’s novel. The miniseries came out in February 2016 on Hulu, and I taped it sometime in late 2016. Nope, haven’t cranked it up at all. But I’m going to watch it. Really, really I am.

It’s not a question of boredom when it comes to binge-watching. I record these shows or miniseries because I very much want to see them. Besides, how can I know if they bore me when I haven’t even watched the first episode?

I’d really like to know because, if I don’t figure it out, all the stuff I have on DVR may sit there forever, gathering electronic dust.
