I depend on places like FEED Co. Table and Tavern to keep me abreast of what’s hip. For example, The House app.
“Whaaa?” General Manager Heather Jennings said to me during our recent sit-down when I informed her I had never heard of it.
The House, Heather explained, is a free app that highlights specials and exclusive offers from Chattanooga-based restaurants in the downtown area — such as FEED Co., described as an “industrial-style haunt with elevated comfort grub” and one of the hippest spots on the Southside.
The way the app works is that it syncs to a person’s location and then sends notifications when he or she is in proximity of such specials and offers. And this time of year, it pays to be in proximity of FEED, which is bursting with new seasonal specials.
For starters, Heather has been busy crafting a list of rotating specialty cocktails. Each night, FEED will feature a different drink — an example being the “porch cooler,” made with fresh fruit, mint and Malibu rum.
Meanwhile, FEED’s front-of-thehouse manager Mike Erhart’s focus is on new seasonal beers from local breweries, including Chattanooga Brewing Company, Hutton & Smith and Oddstory. He said he expects to see more fruit-forward IPAs. Chattanooga, he told me, is a big IPA town — another bit of trendy trivia that was news to me.
In addition to spring-inspired bevvies, FEED is also introducing refreshing food specials such as the strawberry feta salad, served with house-made balsamic vinaigrette.
Executive Chef Charlie Loomis’ specialty is cooking with fresh produce, and his daily specials are dependent on “what they’re pulling out of the ground,” he said. He anticipates seasonal proteins to include more seafood, such as scallops and various varieties of king crab. But as for specific recipes, he could not say for sure.
The spring season, after all, is full of surprises.
