Squonk Opera unleashes ‘PNEUMATICA’
Final show in InSight Patten Performance is environmental festival in Engel Stadium
An Earth Week celebration unlike any other seen in Chattanooga is set for Tuesday, April 11, when Squonk Opera presents Earth, Wind & Solar Festival in historic Engel Stadium, 1130 E. Third St.
The final event in the InSight Patten Performance series at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, this production is composed of three, 30-minute concerts and multiple workshops about energy, wind power and wind machines. Show times are 4, 6:30 and 8 p.m.; workshops follow the 4 and 6:30 p.m. shows.
Squonk Opera will perform “Pneumatica,” an outdoor musical event about air, made of air and powered by air. As the Squonkers pump up the volume on their live, original music, air blows out of the robotlike set and begins filling attached inflatables. The overall effect is one that immerses the audience in the power of green energy.
The Pittsburgh-based Squonkers have played on three continents and more than 25 states while creating 11 original productions. They also appeared on “America’s Got Talent,” making it to the top 48 and performing live for 14 million viewers.
In addition to workshops presented by Squonk, EPB and Tennessee Solar Solutions, Hamilton County Schools will have working displays from their robotics and STEM classes. Local farms and craftspeople will bring items for sale. Area sustainable businesses will be on hand to demonstrate products and educate visitors on making sustainable living practices a viable choice for daily life.
Food trucks will provide choices for snacks and dinner, while a “TreeDimensional” light show, silent auction and other activities will keep audience members engaged between performances.
Tickets are $10, free for students with valid ID.
