Master Your Garden
Master Gardeners’ expo at Camp Jordan this weekend
A two-day expo devoted to spring spruce-ups in gardens, yards and landscaping is set for Saturday and Sunday, April 8-9, in Camp Jordan Arena.
Master Gardeners of Hamilton County, in partnership with University of Tennessee Extension, are sponsoring their fifth annual Master Your Garden Expo. The expo brings together an array of exhibits, demonstrations, educational activities and vendors in one convenient location. It offers something to interest first-time gardeners to experienced planters.
“Our goal is to bring the latest gardening information to the Chattanooga community,” says Carol Mathews, expo chairwoman. “In past years, people attending have stayed for hours partaking of our numerous and varied offerings. Many have gone home with something beautiful and lasting for their own gardens.”
Need some new tools? The expo has them.
Want to learn which hydrangeas will grow best in a yard with lots of sun? Check out Sunday’s 12:30 p.m. seminar, one of 17 being presented by experts on Saturday and Sunday.
Got a question about why you had problems growing tomatoes last summer? Ask one of the pros manning vendors booths.
Special guests at the expo will be speakers Patricia Lanza, author of “Lasagna Gardening,” and botanical artist Linda Fraser. Lanza will explain lasagna gardening on Saturday at 2 p.m.; Fraser speaks on plants of the Bible on Sunday at 2:15 p.m.
There will be ongoing live demonstrations both days on proper mulching, raised-bed gardening, rain barrels, therapeutic gardening, straw-bale gardening, and insects and butterflies.
Master Gardeners members will staff a question-and-answer
booth, “Ask a Master Gardener,” taking questions from visitors, as well as providing their expert advice on trees, shrubs, annuals, perennials, vegetable and herb gardening, landscaping, mulching
and composting.
There are even handson activities for budding gardeners ages 2 to 12.
If it grows, the Master Gardeners have got it covered at the Master Your Garden Expo.
