Civic Arts League tells ‘Framed Stories’

New exhibit offers series of artists’ works explaining a theme

- STAFF REPORT

The Civic Arts League Inc., the oldest art alliance in Chattanooga, is presenting “Framed Stories” at the Creative Arts Guild, 520 W. Waugh St. in Dalton, Ga., beginning Friday, April 14, through Friday, May 26.

More than 20 artists are participating with over 100 works, which have been juried by Diane Norwich, East Ridge High School art director, and curated by Savannah Thomas of the Creative Arts Guild.

Playing off the literary device of a framed story, each artist submitted a series of up to seven pieces that illustrated a theme that was meaningful and relevant to the artist. These individual stories are folded into the larger frame of the league’s exhibit theme.

An opening reception with live music, drawings, plein air painting, food and wine is scheduled Friday, May 5, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. The reception is open to the public.

The Civic Arts League Inc. of Chattanooga is a nonprofit organization consisting of artists dedicated to the goals of promoting cultural, educational and public arts, advancing the accessibility of original art and encouraging artistic pursuit and standard.

Members meet the first Monday of every month (except July and holidays) at 6 p.m. in Grace Episcopal Church, 20 Belvoir Ave. Anyone interested in becoming a member or hosting an exhibit, may call art director Cynthia Pennington, 423-619-8959, or president Sandra Babb at 423-227-9464.
