Ringgold man arrested on DUI, vehicular homicide charges in 2-year-old’s death

- STAFF REPORT

A Ringgold, Ga., man was arrested last week on a vehicular homicide charge for a crash in which his 2-year-old daughter died.

The crash occurred in November 2016, according to a Georgia State Patrol report. Jack Fielding Milhollin, 20, drove a Ford Ranger with his daughter inside, chasing another car because of a domestic dispute. The girl’s mother was in the other car, and they were driving south on Stewart Road, in a rural area between Catoosa Springs and Varnell.

Milhollin lost control of the truck at a curve in the road, according to the report. He began weaving. He ran off the road to the right and crashed through a fence, and his truck rolled through a field. By the time paramedics arrived, the girl was dead. The paramedics sent Milhollin to Erlanger hospital on a Life Force helicopter.

A state trooper cited Milhollin on several charges, including vehicular homicide, aggressive driving, DUI and an open-container violation. The trooper also cited him for not putting the girl in a car seat. At the time, a blood test against Milhollin was pending.

On Thursday, he was arrested on those outstanding warrants. A Catoosa County Sheriff’s Office report does not clearly state why he was arrested five months after the crash, but it says somebody at 3157 Keith Road called 911 on Thursday to complain about a man driving up and down the road too fast. A sheriff’s office investigator later found the car abandoned near the road and the driver, Milhollin, in the backyard of the caller’s house.

It’s not clear if the caller and Milhollin know each other, based on the report. But the investigator arrested Milhollin on the outstanding warrants.

He left jail on Saturday on a bond of $20,000. According to the crash report, Milhollin has a Class A commercial driver’s license, allowing him to drive semi trucks.
