Lookouts rally to victory
Edgar Corcino, Nick Gordon and LaMonte Wade homered in consecutive innings Wednesday night as the Chattanooga Lookouts defeated Pensacola 7-4 before an announced crowd of 3,274 at AT&T Field.
Wade’s two-out solo homer to right field in the seventh inning broke a 4-4 tie and gave the Lookouts their first lead of the evening. Chattanooga has now won three consecutive games to even its record at 13-13.
The Lookouts took a 5-4 lead into the eighth inning and added to it when Corcino singled to right to score Tanner English and Gordon. Corcino and Wade each went 3-for-4 for Chattanooga, which scored the final seven runs of the game. Corcino had three RBIs.
Pensacola was already up 1-0 in the third inning when Gabriel Guerrero’s double to left scored Tyelr Goeddel and Blake Trahan to give the Blue Wahoos a three-run lead. They made it 4-0 in the fourth on Trahan’s single to right that scored Goeddel.
The Lookouts finally got going offensively in the fourth inning, when Wade singled to center and Dan Gamache followed with a walk. Travis Harrison then singled to center to score Wade, and Gamache came home on an English sacrifice to left.
Corcino’s fifth-inning home run to right field, his first of the season, pulled Chattanooga within 4-3, and then Gordon tied it with a homer to right-center in the sixth. The homer was the second of the year for the top-rated prospect in the Minnesota Twins organization.
Game two of the five-game series is tonight at 7:15, and it’s “Star Wars” night in recognition of May the 4th.
