Chatt State set for region final

Second-seeded Chattanoog­a State beat top seed Walters State 5-3 in the winners-bracket final Tuesday night after edging Columbia State 5-4 in the TCCAA/ NJCAA Region VII softball tournament at Gallatin, Tenn. The Lady Tigers play for the championsh­ip at 3 p.m. EDT today. Walters earlier beat Jackson State 10-1. Cleveland State (33-17) exited the baseball tournament with an 11-1 loss to Southwest Tennessee.

GOLF

› The Lee University women’s golf team moved up to fourth with a second-round 304 Tuesday at the NCAA Division II South Super Regional in Elgin, S.C., and can earn a place in the national championsh­ip tournament if they finish in the top three today. The Lady Flames are at 622, three strokes behind Nova Southeaste­rn, with Barry at 612 and Saint Leo at 616. Lee’s Caroline Moore is tied for 10th individual­ly at 153 after a second-r0und 74, and Haverly Harrold is tied for 18th at 156 with Sam Burrus at 158, Anne Hedegaard at 160 and Annika Gino at 161.

› Lee is 12th out of 20 teams at 596 in the South/Southeast men’s regional at Muscle Shoals, Ala., but the Flames are only nine strokes out of fifth. Adam Wright leads Lee at 148, one ahead of Shea Sylvester, while Scott Odell is at 151 and Corey Sheppard is at 152 after the team’s best score Tuesday, 73.

› Sewanee is 11th at 324 after the first round of the NCAA Division III women’s golf tournament Tuesday at Bay Oaks Country Club in Houston. The Tigers were led by Meghan Symonds’ 76.
