OUTDOORS NOTE
› Archery in Schools Program: Hixson Middle School seventh-grader Caden Gilley participated in the National Archery in the Schools Program national tournament May 11-13 in Louisville, Ky., after finishing fourth out of 412 middle school boys in the Tennessee state tournament March 30-31 in Murfreesboro. He was third out of 129 seventh-grade boys and 17th out of 923 boys overall, counting high schoolers. Warren County High School junior Austin Evans was first overall in the state competition, and Warren County freshman Carsyn Gunter was second in her class and eighth out of 758 girls overall. The McMinnville school had four others in the top 10 in their classes, and Meigs County High, Meigs Middle, Ocoee Middle and Bledsoe County High had 10 top-10 archers combined. Meigs freshmen Caleb Smith and Jay Tyson were second and third among the 923 boys overall, and Meigs seventh-grader Archer Reese was second in middle school boys and 11th overall.
